5. Dimension stability (dynamics of expansion and shrinking as well as swelling)

1. Characteristic: Variation of dimension at moistening or drying

2. Measuring principle: direct determination of the characteristic
Dynamic measuring of variation in CD and MD under influence of moisture and drying. The variation of the water content in fibres is indicated by expansion or shrinking.

There are two measuring principles, the measuring of the variation of the dimension by transducer or by optical image analysis.

3. Measurement results
Variation of dimension in % over a defined period. The period is selectable in a printing process relevant resolution (milliseconds).

4. Significance for the printing process
  • Wrinkling
  • Fan out potential
  • Eveness of the web, waviness of multilayers, waviness in the printed image
  • Long term stability of printed products
  • Loss of gloss after storage, grow over of edges
